Mumbai on Thursday reported the highest single-day spike in new COVID-19 cases with 8,646 people testing positive for the virus. Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Thursday hinted that some restrictions could be introduced in the city from April 2 where hotels could be asked to operate at 50 per cent of the seating capacity and religious places might be shut completely. Train journeys might be restricted to only essential services staff as in the past. The active cases now in Mumbai city have crossed 55,000.
