Cyclone approaching, West Bengal eases lockdown restrictions

Fearing devastation by Cyclone “Yaas”, the West Bengal Government has relaxed lockdown restrictions that may have hampered flood-control work in villages.

In an order on Sunday, the state government lifted the restriction on rural development works, including emergency flood control and pre-monsoon essential works.

According to the Met Department warning, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to lash Medinipur, south & north 24 Parganas, Howrah and Hooghly districts in West Bengal on May 25.

In a high-level meeting, CMMamata Banerjee has asked all departments concerned to work round the clock and evacuate people from the possible path of the storm. The state has also set up a control room to monitor the situation.
