At least 35 doctors have tested positive for the novel coronavirus at the All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi.

This comes a day after 37 doctors at Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital tested positive for Covid-19. All the 37 doctors who have tested positive were vaccinated. Of the 37 doctors who contracted the virus, 32 are in home isolation with mild symptoms while five are admitted to the hospital itself for treatment.

“Serving Covid patients at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, 37 doctors of the hospital have tested positive for Covid-19. The majority of these corona warriors have mild symptoms. Thirty-two doctors are in home isolation and the rest five are admitted in the hospital,” a hospital source was quoted by PTI as saying.

Delhi recorded 7,437 fresh Covid-19 cases on Thursday, the highest single-day surge this year. Twenty-four more people died due to the coronavirus infection, taking the death toll to 11,157, according to the city’s health department.

The positivity rate also mounted to 8.1 per cent from 6.1 per cent the previous day, as the massive spike in cases witnessed over the past few weeks continues.

As Covid-19 cases continue to mount in Delhi, the Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital has stopped all other non-Covid services at the facility to tackle the rapid spread in coronavirus cases.

On Thursday, a vaccine officer at the hospital had tested positive for Covid-19, leading to chaos and delay in the vaccination process here.

The fresh Covid-19 cases come as India reported more than 1.31 lakh in 24 hours.
